Thomas Chen received his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China in 1984 and B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Hohai University, Nanjing, China in 1982. He served as a lecturer while working towards his Ph.D degree in Southeast University, Nanjing, China before joined Pepperl and Fuchs Pte Ltd Singapore as a senior R&D engineer. He then moved to the US to join Rockwell Automation’s sensor business as a project engineer. His long career of more than a quarter of century as a sensor designer also includes years of service as a principal systems engineer with Allegro Microsystems Inc. and with Sensata Technologies Inc. In 2015, Thomas co-founded Starrycom Sensing Technologies Inc. and have served as company CTO ever since. Thomas’ area of interests remains in inductive proximity sensors, pressure sensors and tactile sensor arrays, and magnetic and electric current sensors, with emphasis on sensors with embedded intelligence (smart sensors) and sensors as integrated microsystems.
