Recently named a BUILTWORLDS 2022 Top 50 Maverick and 2021 Environment & Energy Top 100, Hansen is a water industry pioneer with over 40 years in water and sewer pipeline condition assessment, trenchless rehabilitation, and enterprise data management. Selling his first business to Golden Gate Capital and INFOR Global for $100 million in 2007, Hansen was a pre-IPO investor in Facebook and is a Limited Partner and member of the investment board of Folsom, Calif.-based Moneta Ventures. A serial cleantech entrepreneur, Hansen founded Electro Scan Inc. in 2011, an in-pipe tethered sensor-based real-time pipe assessment device that overcomes weaknesses in legacy pipe inspection tools. Sensors provide pinpoint leak location and quantification to identify water losses in pressurized pipes and defects in gravity-based sewers and stormwater pipes that contribute to flooding, sewer backups, and environmental contamination. In 2022, Hansen released the world’s first field sensor to automatically identify buried lead pipe assisting cities in spending $15 billion in the federal government’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to replace 100% of buried lead drinking water pipes.
Holder of 17 international patents, Hansen is also an award-winning musician and recording artist, Hansen has recorded with a number of international artists and bands, including Eddie Money, Huey Lewis, and Todd Rundgren, appearing on the last two CDs of Tower of Power, playing baritone and bass saxophones. Hansen received his MBA from UCLA and BS from UC Berkeley where he played in the jazz band and rowed crew for Cal. Currently, Hansen is enrolled in Stanford University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program.
