Conference Session: WORKSHOP: How to Easily Build a Smart Sensor with the PICMG IOT.1 Specification

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Requirement: Each participant must bring a Wi-Fi connected laptop with a USB port.

Participants in this workshop will have the chance to see how easy it is to create their very own smart sensor using their laptop and PICMG IOT.1 technology. Using their own laptop, each participant will see their smart sensor working, and will leave with a small, embedded board and a sensor to take with them as an example of how to replicate it.
We’ll begin by discussing the challenges with making smart sensors and then move into an overview of PICMG’s IOT.1 firmware specification. After that, we’ll spend the rest of the time putting the spec into practice - we're going to make a smart sensor!
The workshop will begin with each participant creating a sensor definition file, just like they might do if they were creating their own smart sensor. Then we'll use the automated configurator to configure the device to create a device configuration file. Finally, we'll develop the firmware for their custom smart sensor. No single line of code needs to be written, as the tool chain will do that for them, and then we’ll upload the code onto the device.
